Opening National Bulgarian Pavillion in Anhui with BCCCI
As reported by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency, on July 10, 2023, the Bulgarian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI) opened a Bulgarian national pavilion in China, in the city of Bengbu, Anhui province. The pavilion is part of the Anhui Lake Rising Bright Moon Project, a large-scale initiative to promote cross-border e-commerce and cultural exchange between China and the countries along the Belt and Road.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Ivaylo Iordanov, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in China and Dr. Ivo Ganchev, Vice-Chairman of BCCCI and a professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University, as well as representatives from the Anhui Lake Rising Bright Moon Project and the Organizing Committee of the National Pavilion for Cross-Border E-Commerce.
The Bulgarian national pavilion is designed to showcase the best of Bulgarian products and culture to the Chinese consumers and businesses. It will feature a variety of goods, such as wine, dairy, essential oils, engineering products, chemical products, and more. It will also host various events, such as wine tastings, cultural performances, business seminars, and educational programs.
Dr. Ivo Ganchev, the Vice-Chairman of BCCCI and a professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University, said: “We are very proud to open the Bulgarian national pavilion in China, which is the result of our long-term cooperation and friendship with our Chinese partners. We hope that this pavilion will serve as a platform for enhancing the trade and cultural exchange between Bulgaria and China, and for introducing the Chinese people to the rich and diverse heritage of Bulgaria. We also hope that this pavilion will help the Bulgarian companies to access the huge and dynamic Chinese market, and to overcome the challenges and barriers that they face in exporting their products to China.”
Dr. Ganchev also pointed out the potential and the difficulties of exporting Bulgarian wine to China, which is one of the main products that the pavilion will display. He said: “Bulgaria has a long and distinguished history of wine production, dating back to the ancient Thracians. We have a wide range of high-quality wines, made from both local and international grape varieties. However, our wine exports to China have declined significantly in recent years, due to various factors, such as the lack of brand recognition, the fierce competition, the high tariffs, and the changing consumer preferences. We hope that through the pavilion, we can increase the awareness and the appreciation of the Bulgarian wines among the Chinese consumers, and to create more opportunities for the Bulgarian wineries to enter and expand in the Chinese market.”
The Bulgarian national pavilion is one of the first national pavilions to open in the Anhui Lake Rising Bright Moon Project, which aims to build a comprehensive and innovative platform for cross-border e-commerce and cultural exchange. The project covers an area of 1,000 mu (about 66.7 hectares), and will include a total of 65 national pavilions, as well as a cross-border e-commerce service center, a cultural and creative park, a logistics and distribution center, and a smart city system.
