New Regional Orders: Dr. Ivo Ganchev Launches Global Podcast
On 2 May 2025, Dr. Ivo Ganchev, Founding Director of the Centre for Regional Integration, launched New Regional Orders—a new global podcast series exploring how regional dynamics shape international politics, trade, and governance.
Supported by the Centre for Regional Integration and hosted by Dr. Ganchev, the podcast features in-depth conversations with leading scholars and practitioners, examining how political, economic, social, and geographic forces interact at the regional level to influence global outcomes. Each season focuses on a different region, with the inaugural season dedicated to the Americas.
Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Ganchev said:
“There is no global order without regional orders, which constitute core layers of international politics and trade. This podcast brings together voices that help us understand how regions operate internally, how power is distributed within them, and how their development shapes the world we live in.”
The first episode, now available on all major platforms, features Professor Tom Long (University of Warwick) in a wide-ranging discussion on U.S. power in Latin America, the strategic role of small states, and the limitations of regional organizations. The upcoming second episode will feature Dr. Alina Gamboa Combs (Universidad Anáhuac México) and examine Mexico’s unique positioning between North and Latin America, with a focus on Mesoamerica.
By bridging academic insight and practical experience, New Regional Orders offers accessible yet rigorous analysis for policymakers, students, and professionals alike. The podcast contributes to a deeper understanding of regionalism in the 21st century and its implications for global governance.
