China News Front Page Features Dr. Ivo Ganchev’s Take on EU-China Relations
Following the visit of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to China, Chinese President Xi Jinping starts his state visits to France, Serbia and Hungary between 5-10 May, 2024.
Amid these developments, Dr. Ivo Ganchev discussed EU-China relations with the second-largest Chinese news agency, China News. On May 7, his analysis was featured on the front page of their website.
Here is an overview of Dr. Ganchev’s comments:
“China and Germany are currently the second and third largest economies in the world, so they have an economic relationship that is consequential not jut for these two countries and their regions, but for the whole world at large.
We can see that in the aftermath of the COVID pandemic, there has been a resurgence in bilateral economic relations, and we can also see that German investment in China is currently at an all-time high. We have seen companies like Bosch investing in emerging Chinese cities such as Chongqing. German-Chinese-relations are largely conducted in a pragmatic manner, in a way that can help to support businesses on both sides, which is beneficial to the workers and the consumers in both countries as well.
When it comes to Europe-China relations, I believe that they will follow suit as well.
As you know, there is a fair number of other large European economies, which have similar relations with China, as is the case with Germany and France, and there are many other, smaller European states, which are highly interested in continuing to explore the opportunities of the Chinese market.
Conversely, there is a variety of products, which have become of higher and higher quality in recent years. They are now imported from China and used widely by European consumers. So I’m optimistic about bilateral relations between China and Europe as a whole as well.”
