Co-Chairing a Roundtable at the ISA 2023 Virtual Conference
Dr. Ivo Ganchev, an academic, executive, and consultant who bridges the gap between scholarship and working in industry, co-chaired an a virtual roundtable discussion at the ISA 2023 Virtual Conference, which took place from August 1 to August 4, 2023. The roundtable was organized along with Dr. Arkadiy Eremin from Webster University. Other panelists include Prof. Christian Kaunert from Dublin City University and Mr. Mikhail Polianskii from the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt.
The roundtable addressed the challenges and opportunities faced by Russian scholars who have left their country due to political repression, academic censorship, or personal security reasons. The panelists shared their experiences and insights on how to adapt to different academic environments, how to maintain professional networks and collaborations, and how to contribute to the development of political science and international relations as disciplines and as public goods. The roundtable also discussed the implications of the Russian invasion of Ukraine for the academic community and the role of scholars in promoting peace, dialogue, and cooperation in the region. The roundtable was well attended by the conference participants.
Dr. Ganchev and Dr. Eremin expressed their gratitude to the ISA for providing the platform and the support for this important and timely event. They also announced their plans to continue the discussion and to organize more activities on the topic of Russian academicians in exile in the near future.
