From Scientific Inventions to Social Evolution (Public Lecture)
Last week, Queen Mary University of London invited me to deliver a lecture to over two hundred incoming students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. My lecture was made available online on Aug 22. I would like to express my gratitude to Queen Mary for this opportunity to engage with the student community amid a global pandemic. A recording of the lecture is available in the watch section of this website. The full title as well as a short abstract are available below.
From Scientific Inventions to Social Evolution: Theorizing STEM as a Root Cause of World History
Abstract: What forces determine the path of world history? In this lecture, Ivo Ganchev examines the relationship between the natural and the social world, theorizing STEM as a root cause of social evolution. He traces the links between scientific inventions and large-scale changes in world history, arguing that STEM is a force which shapes the development of social structures. The analytical framework employed in this lecture is based on Ivo’s original theory of social sciences, structural materialism.
