Launch of the Green Model of the China-Europe Rural Revitalization Initiative
On Sep 5, the China-Europe Qingdao Forum on Sustainable Development and 2022 International Health and Development Industry Development Forum (中欧可持续发展青岛论坛暨2022国际健康与环境产业发展论坛) took place in Beijing.
The event featured the launch of a Green Model of the China-Europe Rural Revitalization Initiative, which promotes cooperation in green and sustainable development between Chinese and European rural areas. This could potentially bring benefits for both by focusing on areas which are often neglected at the expense of industrial zones or large cities.
As one of the promoters of this exciting initiative, it was a pleasure to see the enthusiasm of my colleagues who joined me in this effort, including Minister-Councilor Morten Kruse, Head of Trade at the Danish Embassy in Beijing, and Dimitri De Boer, one of the most prominent foreign environmental cooperation experts in China.
During a special panel session, I was able to share my views and predictions in terms of global trends in the field of sustainable development. Although Chinese technology is not yet at a level that could be considered world-leading, it is improving very rapidly – and even until then, there are many regions of the world which lag behind China in terms of technology. This presents opportunities for the implementation of Chinese technology at a relatively low cost now, rather than later.
The opportunity to drive both this conversation and the implementation of concrete actions to help rural areas is a privilege and I am looking forward to continue helping other similar initiatives in the future.
