Talk Show Interview: US-China Relations and Starbucks
In the third episode of a new talk show, Chatbox, China Plus invited Ivo Ganchev, Adjunct Professor of Global Leadership at Beijing Union University to discuss China-US relations the role of Starbucks in promoting them.
Honorary Chairman of the Board of Directors of Starbucks, Howard Schultz recently sent the Chinese President a translated copy of his latest book, “From the Ground Up: A Journey to Reimagine the Promise of America.” The correspondence included a letter to Xi, which pointed to Starbucks’ longstanding commitment to China and its employees there.
In response, President Xi wrote to Schultz “to encourage him and Starbucks to continue to play an active role in promoting Chinese-U.S. economic and trade cooperation and the development of bilateral relations.”
This is rare direct communication from China’s paramount leader to a foreign business figure. Schultz opened Starbucks’ first China outlet in 1999 and is a frequent visitor.
Gloria Tu Yun discusses this recent piece of news, as well as the future of China-US relations under the incoming Biden administration. She is joined by Ivo Ganchev, Adjunct Professor of Global Leadership at Beijing Union University as well as Xu Qinduo, Senior Researcher at Pangoal Institution.
